If you want to be paid to walk up Helvellyn then you've got until
Friday to get you application in...
The
snag is that you'll have to do it every day regardless of conditions
and carrying a 40lb pack full of equipment as part of your job as a
'Fell Top Assessor' with the Lake District National Park responsible
to providing accurate information on conditions on the high
fells.
The successful candidate needs to combine meterological skills
with a role as a National Park Ranger, be fit enough to reach the top
of the 3,114 ft mountain from the information centre in Glenridding
in two hours and have winter mountaineering skills.
"This is a vitally important job, " Park Ranger Manager, Shirley
Muir is reported as saying. "Assessors are expected to leave
Glenridding Information Centre and reach the summit in under two
hours. They recode details of wind speed, temperature, snow and ice
and the state of footpaths."
The successful candidate will work seven days on and seven days
off, so plenty of time for playing on the hills, but will be paid pro
rata, so don't expect to be rich...

details see the Lake District Park Authority site at
