Most of our Christmas
gift suggestions so far have been proper stocking filler
stuff, but if you really want to blow someone's socks off this year,
then Rab's lovely
Microlight Alpine down jacket is a pretty good bet.
Unlike most down jackets, the lightweight and compressible - it fits
into its own chest pocket - Microlight is designed for
three-season rather than just extreme winter use. It uses 165 grammes
of high spec, 750+ fill power European goose down contained in mini
stitch-through micro baffles.
Overall weight is around 350 grammes and this year there is a women's
version, whereas last year lasses had to do without a hood. Where the
girls really do score this season is on the colour front with no fewer
than five options including the rather lovely bubble-gum pink shade
that Rab calls 'Rose'.
The guys are stuck with a choice of basically black, blue or green,
with last year's searing 'Acid' option relegated to the standard
hoodless Microlight Jacket, not that that's a bad choice in itself.
The Rab Microlight Alpine Jacket retails for £140 and is
available in both men's and women's versions. More information at www.rab.uk.com
