Great Mountains, Good Cause...

Spend a weekend in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Lake District, enjoy some of the best walking, climbing and scrambling in the UK and do it all for a good cause too...

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team is holding its annual fundraising weekend on September 19-21 with all the events based around the historic Wasdale Head Hotel nestled at the foot of the valley.

Anyone who made it along to last year's excellent event will know what to expect - a live band on the Friday night, a fund-raising auction of thousands of pounds worth of outdoor gear to raise money for the team on Saturday night followed by an evening disco, plus treasure hunts, orienteering, a beer festival, rescue dog display, a rescue exhibition, a workshop for children, face painting and loads more. And there's free camping at the Barn Door campsite conveniently located a minutes stagger away from the pub...

This year there's also going to be a poignant Sunday church service in memory of four climbers who fell from Scafell Pinnacle, the first ever climbing casualties in the UK.

One of the prime movers behind the event is OM regular and sometime gear tester Guy Newbold. He's put a huge amount of energy into organising what looks like being a great weekend, so get along there and support him - yes, we are biased... All funds raised go to the Wasdale MRT's Vehicle Appeal.
