Green Key Proposals 'Dropped'

Unconfirmed information suggests that the Green Key Strategy 'in its present form' has been abandoned

According to as yet unconfirmed information, the controversial Snowdonia Green Key proposals have been dropped.

Like we say, it's not yet official, but our source tells us that the Welsh Tourist Board has concluded: 'It would be inappropriate to proceed with the proposals as they currently stand.'

The plans, which involved shutting car parking spaces and instead forcing visitors to park in 'gateway towns' then access the hills by public transport, were fiercely unpopular with many locals who believed that the scheme commandeered access to the mountains and would actually drive visitors away from the area.

For a fuller summary of local objections to the scheme see the Freedom To Choose protest site and links to our previous articles at the bottom of this page.

More information when we have it. Have a good weekend.
