The world seems to have gone mountain film crazy over the last few
weeks, so it's no surprise that award-winning film-maker Alastair Lee's new DVD - 'Grit
Flick' - is out today.
Produced in conjunction with Marmot, the DVD consists of ten short
films covering a bunch of important gritstone ascents last winter. They
include Jordan Buy's second ascent of Widdop Wall and the first ascent
of a route described by John Dunne as 'the hardest route on grit',
which follows a blank wall to the left of 'The New Statesman' at Ilkley.
There's lots more including the hardest UK female ascent on grit as
Lucy Creamer attempts the E8-graded Slab and Crack at Curbar. Other
climbers featured include Pete Whittaker, James McHaffie, Ben Bransby
and Gaz Parry.
Lee himself explains the enduring popularity of gritstone climbing on
film:
'Gritstone is eternally popular with all climbers, it's got the
history, it's got the access, its been in loads of climbing films and
for good reason... the routes fit in the lens so well and generally
make for good viewing as you're either up or you're off!'
Price is £12.99 and you can watch the cracking trailer
- also above - and buy the DVD online at www.posingproductions.com
