Guided 3000s Come To Keswick

Take on a trimmed-down Cumbrian version of the 3000s at Keswick Mountain Festival...

It's not for a couple of months yet, but here's another sneak peak at the Keswick Mountain Festival Programme, for anyone doing a touch of spring cleaning in the diary department.

Amongst a good combination of walks, talks, and, erm, dry stone walling, the festival organisers have put together the Patagonia Challenge 3000, which you need to book in advance, so it's worth making a note now. It's not as gruelling as the Welsh 3000s, with only three peaks involved on this occasion, not fourteen - that's Skiddaw, Helvellyn, and Scafell Pike - and you have the five days of the festival in which to complete them. There could be some fantastic views involved - if the weather plays ball - along with good company, a chance to meet other walkers, and a complimentary Patagonia fleece jacket and certificate on completion.

Anyone up for the challenge needs to sign up for the relevant guided walks by calling 017687 75738 or downloading the registration form.

And if you fancy a day out with one of the real pros of the mountaineering world, it's not too late to win a guided ramble on the Borrowdale Fells with Alan Hinkes, on Friday 18th May, in our competition.

More details of Keswick Mountain Festival, which takes place from 16th - 20th May, are available on the festival website, and you can find full information about the Patagonia 3000 Challenge there as well.

Finally, if there are any other events coming up that you think OM readers might be interested in, drop us a line and we'll add them to our events calendar.

Um, has Scafell (as opposed to the Pike) been demoted?

Maybe the ~133m descent between Scafell and the Pike means they don't think it's prominent enough to be included.

At least we all know what hills to avoid that week...
