emphasising that its Intense range of lightweight, fast-moving kit is
ideal for one of the UK's most challenging mountain marathon events
complete with mid-way ceilidh.
The 2010 Highlander takes place on 10/11 April 'somewhere in the North
of Scotland' with a combination of stunning mountain scenery and
changeable early spring Scottish weather making for a tough but
stunning event. The format is standard mountain marathon with teams of
two competing over two days navigating over mountain terrain while
carrying their own kit for the overnight camp.
There are five classes to choose from which means that a whole range of
abilities from elite level athletes down to raw beginners can be
catered for.
Chris Near (one of the Country’s leading fellrunners and winner of the
A class of the Highlander in 2007 and 2008) reckons: “The Highlander is
without doubt the best UK Mountain Marathon. It is a fantastic event in
some of the best mountain scenery that Britain has to offer, and is
unique in that it offers competitors a real highland experience
(marquee with ceilidh band, hot food and beer at the overnight camp).”
