The Lake District's Weatherline
Fell Top Assessment reports are back for the winter and
there's an opening for a
new assessor to climb Helvellyn on a daily basis and
report on conditions on the mountain. Plus the service has a new phone
number.
The 2008 Fell Top
Assessors in action
Weatherline has been in existence for 34 years now and is available
both on the web and by phone. The service carries not only the Met
Office's detailed Lake District mountain weather forecast, but also a
unique daily report from the summit of Helvellyn detailing conditions
underfoot and advising on clothing and equipment.
The reports are compiled by two Fell Top Assessors who climb the
mountain daily over the winter months and make both subjective
assessments of the conditions and take detailed measurements of
conditions on the summit including temperature, wind chill and wind
speed.
New Assessor Needed
The assessors work seven days on and seven days off and are experienced
mountaineers. The good news, for someone out there, is that Weatherline
has a vacancy for a new
Fell Top Assessor with a closing date of Friday 11
December, 2009.
