Humar Trapped At 6,300 Metres

Reports from Nepal say Slovenian climber missing on Langtang peak with broken leg.

Top Slovenian mountaineer Tomaz Humar appears to be trapped at around 6,300 metres on a Nepalese mountain with a broken leg, rescue efforts are reportedly underway.

Tomaz HumarEverestnews.com, which is normally a reliable source of information, says that Humar is stuck on 7,2276-metre Langtang Lirung  after an accident. He was apparently soloing the East Ridge of the mountain. The site reports that four sherpas were dropped off at base camp with the intention of fixing ropes on the mountain and launching a rescue bid.

Meanwhile mounteverest.net reports that the last contact with the climber was by phone on Tuesday and that bad weather and avalanche risk is hampering rescue attempts  though a Swiss rescue team has arrived at base camp.

In 2005, Humar was rescued from Nanga Parbat after spending six days trapped on a bivvy ledge at around 5,900 metres.  He was eventually plucked to safety by a Pakistan army helicopter, which carried him down to base camp suspended from a rope.
