A quick heads up on this year's Ullswater Outdoor Festival in association with Sprayway, which takes place between Saturday 25 September and Sunday 3 October, 2010.
It's had a name change from 'Walking' to 'Outdoor' this year to reflect a wider spread of activities. There are still some 30 free guided walks over the week, but there are plenty of other attractions this year including mountain bike rides hosted by Cyclewise and an outdoor climbing wall.
You can also take a guided walk around Hartsop mines with the Keswick Mining Museum and go wild swimming. And in the evenings, there's a programme of talks including adventure holiday advice and bird watching.
There's even an outdoors celebrity in the shape of Stuart Maconie, who'll be hosting an evening talk covering the trials and tribulations of being a Radio 2 DJ in love with walking and the Lake District – tickets for this are going fast, see the web site and call Catstycam Outdoor on 017684 82351 or 017684 86401 to book your space.
Sprayway will be there too offering people the chance to trial their outdoor clothing free of charge in real world conditions. Handy if you manage to forget to pack your waterproofs...
Finally, the first 1,000 people registering for the guided walks will receive a Festival Goodie Bag, and where the walk incorporates a trip on the Ullswater Steamers, their ticket will cost only £1.
You can find full details and book online at www.ullswater.com/outdoorfestival, where there's a downloadable pdf of the entire programme.
