International Year of Mountains Latest

The International Year of Mountains rumbles on with some interesting new additions to the list of celebratory events worldwide.

We could list them all here, but fortuitously, the good old BMC has already posted a comprehensive selection on their site, just a click away. Interesting developments include:

• a mooted Mourne Mountains Festival on 12/13 October

• a gala celebration of the Dolomites organised in London by the Trentino Tourist Board of London consisting of a classical concert by the Verona Philharmonic Orchestra followed by a silver-service dinner and speeches in celebration of the Dolomites. Nice...

• super cheap offers to climb Cho Oyu with support from the Chinese Mountaineering Association. No really.

• the Cumbrian Mountain Festival 2002 which is due to launch tomorrow, 17 April, at the National Mountaineering Exhibition at Rheged.
