A last minute date for your diaries with the news that Alan Titchmarsh will be kicking off the Isle of Wight Walking Festival this Saturday, 3 May 2008.

Titchmarsh is the newly appointed High S herriff of the island, honestly, making him the obvious choice to throw open the kissing gates on the largest festival of its kind. The event lasts two weeks and features dozens of walks across the south coast island.

The official launch takes place on Newport Quary at 12pm on Saturday and will also feature posh TV presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle.

There are walks designed for everyone at the festival, from less than a mile right up to a 72-mile cirumnavigation of the island's coast for the really keen. There are also plenty of themed walks including geocaching, yoga walks and one culminating in visit to an ice cream factory.

You can find full details at www.isleofwightwalkingfestival.co.uk complete with a rather cool animated menu bar...
