It's officially about to become very, very hot throughout the UK and the government is warning the old, young and chronically ill to take precautions, but walkers should be just as wary of the heat.

For walkers and climbers, the main issues to be aware of are heat exhaustion, potentially fatal heat stroke and dehydration which can drastically impair your physical performance. Working hard in hot conditions makes all the above conditions more likely.

To help keep you in one piece, check out OUTDOORSmagic's Survive The Sunshine guide where you can find useful tips on how to avoid problems and what to do if you do encounter heat exhaustion or heat stroke - it could save your life or one of your mates.
