It's officially about to become very, very hot throughout the UK
and the government is warning the old, young and chronically ill to
take precautions, but walkers should be just as wary of the heat.
High
temperatures and humidity are forecast to hit the whole of the UK by
Wednesday as they spread north but seem likely to be ended by
thunderstorms mid-week.
For walkers and climbers, the main issues to be aware of are heat
exhaustion, potentially fatal heat stroke and dehydration which can
drastically impair your physical performance. Working hard in hot
conditions makes all the above conditions more likely.
