Well, not quite the Rambling Olympics, but The Ramblers has announced that this year's National Get Walking Weekend will be timed to coincide with the games with – and we quote – 'two whole days of free, fun family walks as Olympic fever sweeps the country!'
'Get Walking for the Games' is the walking organisation's motto for the event which takes place over the weekend of 26-27 May.
Simon Barnett, Head of Walking Programmes and Promotions at the Ramblers said: “2012 is the year to get walking. It’s one of our nation’s favourite pastimes but best of all its easy, enjoyable and affordable. We can’t all be Olympic medalists, but we can get into the spirit of the Games and use it as inspiration to get active and contribute to a great atmosphere in the build up to the Olympic and Paralympics Games - what better way to get into the sporting spirit than by getting yourself and your family to their feet.”
There will an extensive programme of free walks on offer, all family friendly and under 8km or 5 miles and they'll appear, nearer the date on the Group Walks Finder section of the Ramblers web site at www.ramblers.org.uk/areas_groups/groupswalksfinder.
