In the morning you collect debris from the trails...
And after a barbecue lunch, your rewards is this...
Or this even, though maybe not in the Peak.

Hybrid footwear specialist KEEN is bringing its successful Respect the Mountains Envirotrek series to the UK with the inaugural British event taking place at Bamford in the Peak District on 5 August, 2012.

The Envirotrek initiative has been running on the continent since 2009 with events across various European mountain areas - this summers venues include Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands, so maybe not all 'mountain areas' then.

500 Kilos Of Rubbish...

The idea is to allow people to put something back into the outdoors by taking practical action to clean up the increasing amounts of rubbish being left behind in popular areas. To give you an idea, during last year's Envirotrek series, over 500kg of rubbish was cleared in 445 hours across four countries. Debris collected included   a World War 2 vintage US army oil barrel...

UK Envirotrek 2012

The UK Envirotrek takes place at Bamford in the Peak District on 5 August 2012. It starts at 10 am with participants being divided into teams before being briefed, equipped with safety kit and walking and clearing debris and rubbish from local tracks and trails.

The clear-up phase finishes at 12.30 followed by a barbecue lunch on the hillside. After that, participants spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying a range of outdoor activities organised by the Envirotrek leaders including climbing, mountain biking, canyoning and caving.

There's also the chance to win KEEN prizes for the best or most interesting rubbish found on the hill before the whole thing winds up at around 4.00pm.

Sounds like a cracking idea to us. There's an entrance fee of £9.00 which payable on the day, but along with the afternoon activities you also get a goody bag. Children with a responsible adult are welcome and those under the age of 12 can take part for free.

The UK Envirotrek will be held at:
Bamford Playing Fields
Water Lane
Hope Valley
Bamford
S33 OBN

Car parking next to the field, trains from Manchester or Sheffield or the 272 bus from Sheffield all go to Bamford.

You can register to participate online at www.keenfootwear.com/gb/en/envirotrek.
