Kendal Festival - The Climbing Highlights
Young climbers, erm, old(er) ones, the world premiere of a film about the life of Dougal Haston, Hinkes with something a bit different plus much more - it can only be the Kendal Mountain Film Festival 2005.

Blimey, is that the time of year? Yep, as we wonder into the grey
murk between summer and winter, it can mean only one thing, the
Kendal Mountain Film Festival is almost upon us...
This year's festival is looking particularly interesting for
anyone with a climbing bent with a lecturing mix of the young tyros
like Leo Houlding and Dave MacLeod counterbalancing the
likes of Eric Jones, George Band and Doug Scott. So
youth and experience in one then. That's Leo looking cold on Fitzroy
below.
Also appearing is Challenge 8000 man Alan Hinkes who'll be
doing something a bit different with a one-off lecture that's a
little different to his current series. He's going to be considering
what completing the 8,000ers meant to him, the friendships he has
formed with his Sherpa companions and his future plans - what
next when you've knocked off arguably high altitude mountaineering's
greatest challenge?
Haston Film And More
Festival
goers will also have to the chance to take in the world premiere of a
new film about the life of iconic and controversial Scottish climber
Dougal Haston - still in the cutting room, the film will be
just completed in time for the Festival and will be shown at Kendal
before its first broadcast by the BBC.
Another one-off will be Leo Dickinson recounting 'Being in
the Wrong Place at the Right Time with Eric', a tale of one of
Britain 's most successful Alpine solo climbers - Eric Jones - as
told by one of Britain 's greatest film makers and adventurers.
Should be unmissable.
Plus there's the opportunity to hear world-class mountaineer,
guide and 'working mum' Kitty Calhoun takes a humorous and very
personal look at the world of high mountains.
Last but not least there's the planetFear Party on Saturday
night. Nuff said.
