Kendal Mountain Film Festival No More...
... instead it's the Kendal Mountain Festivals and the organisers are already gearing up for what they say should be the best programme of mountain film, literature, art and speakers so far.

A very early date for your diary along with some news on this
year's Kendal festival scheduled for 11-19 November, 2006.
Because what was intitially a mountain film event has expanded
exponentially to include the Book Festival, Arts Festival, Extreme
Film School and the World Tour, the entire event is now going to be
known as - cue fanfare - the Kendal Mountain Festivals.
And because all good new re-launches are accompanied by a new
design, the old familiar orange logo has been consigned to the
dustbin of history and replaced with a new one in shades of blue and
here it is...
It seems absurdly early to be looking at the fine details of
what's happening, but the organisers are promising the best ever
line-up of speakers for the event including Timmy O'Neill, Marko
Prezelj, Ueli Steck and Tim Emmett. And expect some very special
audio-visual experiences, too.
On the book front, the big news is that the Boardman Tasker
Prize for Mountain Literature will now be hosted in Kendal,
moving from the Alpine Club in London where it has been based since
its inception in 1983.
There are also set to be specialist mountain bike, white water and
ski and board evenings and we've heard rumours of some major film
premieres - Mission Impossible 8 maybe. Or maybe not.
Much more information nearer the date - full programme to be
announced at the end of June - but if you're plannning a November
wedding, make it before or after. Tickets can be bought online or
through the box office on 01539 725133. Details as they happen at:
