Kropp Profiled In Observer Sport Monthly
There's an excellent look at the Swedish adventurer who died in a climbing accident last month in the latest Observer Sport Monthly. Well worth a read if you can get hold of a copy.

It's not up on the
Oberver's web site yet, but if you can get hold of a copy of
yesterday's Observer Sport Monthly, there's an excellent profile of
Swedish adventurer Goran Kropp by Ed Douglas.
Kropp was killed last month in a climbing accident in the States,
but shortly before, Douglas trekked to the top of Kilimanjaro with
the charismatic Swede as part of a press trip organised by his
sponsors Helly Hansen.
It's a thoughtful and interesting look at a man who made his name
and his fortune by cultivating a larger than life stage persona and,
in particular, his outrageous self-powered and unsupported ascent of
Everest having cycled all the way from Sweden.
Most revealingly, Douglas put it to the Swede that his 'craziness'
was a stage act that belied the reality of meticulous preparation and
precise judgement. It's an interesting and well-written piece - like
most of OSM - and finishes movingly:
'All I can say of Goran's death is that he lived as he was and did
not have the air of a man who found the world a disappointing place.'
Not a bad obituary.
Hopefully the full article will be on the Observer site soon.
We'll try to let you know.
Kropp's funeral is due to take place near Stockholm on 8 November.
There are also moves to start a Goran Kropp Foundation. See www.gorankropp.com
for details.
