The remarkable climber, explorer and film-maker Kurt Diemberger will be giving three lectures in Scotland, kicking off on Sunday with an appearance at the Dundee Mountain Film Festival. Diemberger is most widely known for two first ascents of the 8000ers - Broad Peak in 1957 with Hermann Buhl, and Dhaulagiri in 1960. Both ascents were made without the use of supplementary oxygen.
The lecture series, promoted by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and the Ramblers Association Scotland, ties in with the UN designation of 2002 as the Year of the Mountain. These are the dates:
Sunday, 24 November Bonar Hall, Dundee
Monday, 25 November Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (introduced by Cameron McNeish)
Tuesday, 26 November Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore
