Mountain rescue teams in the Lakes have seen a big rise in the number of call-outs this year according to a report over at Cumbria Online.

Some teams apparently are saying that this is the busiest year they've ever had, with Cockermouth MRT having been called on some 30 times this November compared to a mere once in the corresponding period last year. The Langdale team reports a similar increase, while Patterdale is apparently at about the same level as normal.

So what's going on? According to John Dempster, from the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association, there are simply more walkers out there on the fells.
