There are six weeks left to have your say on plans to extend the Lake District
and Yorkshire Dales National Parks with feedback sought
not just from Lakes and Dales locals but also those further afield with
an interest in the area.
Thus far, says Natural England, the bulk of the responses submitted are
from local residents, but obviously the areas have a much wider pull
and input is needed to help Natural England reach a final decision on
whether or not to expand the Parks and where the boundaries should lie.
If you are local to the area, there are still two drop-in sessions
where you can meet Natural England staff face-to-face and and have your
questions answered. The sessions are at Grayrigg Village Hall “Pub
Night”, Thursday 11th February, 6.00pm-Close and Newbiggin-on-Lune
Village Hall, Saturday 27th February, 2pm-5.30pm.
There are also three consulation meetings at Kirky Lonsdale, Levens and
Tebay, full details at www.naturalengland.gov.uk
What's It All About?
There are four proposed extensions to the Lakes and Dales
National Parks with the new areas situated between the current
boundaries of the two, the Consultation 'will seek views on whether
they have the qualities necessary to be in a National Park, whether
they should be given National Park status, and where the boundaries
should be drawn'.
In the case of one area, the Orton Fells, consultees will be asked
whether they should fall within the Lakes or Dales Park if designated.
The process is scheduled to finish in mid-March 2010.
You can find full details along with mapping, download consultation
documents and submit your input at www.lakestodaleslandscapes.org.uk
