The National Theatre, on London's Southbank, is currently hosting an exhibition of the prize-winning photographs from this year's Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, and we can't deny it's pretty breathtaking.

Included in the display, called 'Take A View', are old favourites such as Glencoe and Buchaille Etive Mor in brooding, snow-capped mode. But there are plenty of less well-worn sights too. Vicious lightning strikes out at sea, Dorset sea cliffs, remote lochs in the Cairngorms, and of course the good old line-up of flood-bound cows (right) are also amongst them.

Lowepro and Paramo have jumped on board as well, to award the Paramo prize for the best mountain image and the Lowepro award for the best environmental image, which means a handful of photographers will be sporting snug new Paramo jackets and Lowepro rucksacks next time they're on a scenic date with their cameras.

All sounds good to us, whether you're browsing through the photos or taking them.

Landscape Photography Lecture

And if just looking isn't enough, Charlie Waite (photographer of the flooded cows) will be giving a talk about the awards, and the process of taking the perfect landscape photo. Budding photographers, put Friday 12th October in your diary now, and head to the Lyttelton Exhibition Foyer at the National Theatre by 4:30pm.

Both the talk and the exhibition are free, although you need to book the talk in advance - call the Box Office on 020 7452 3000.

The exhibition is open from 9:30 am to 11:00 pm every day.

More details of the display are available on the National Theatre website.
