Berghaus-sponsored climber hits the road for a year of full time climbing.
Berghaus-sponsored
climber Leah Crane is off on the journey of a lifetime, a
one-year climbing road trip
supported by the north east-based company which has counted Leah as a
team athlete for several years now.
Along with climbing partner Simon Wadsworth, Leah started off from the
Berghaus international HQ in sunny Sunderland where she was
seen off in style by staff. Leah, 20, is one of the UK's top climbers,
has been in the British Bouldering team for four years and is currently
Britain's number one female boulderer. Aside from bouldering, she's
also an active trad climbers, deep water solos and has even competed in
the Ice Climbing World Cup.
The pair are planning to take in some of the best climbing in Europe
over the next 12 months with projected highlights including Riglas in
Spain, the impressive Verdon Gorge - France - and bouldering in Magic
Wood, Switzerland, which we're too out of touch to have heard of...
Leah will also be popping home in June to defend her title at the
British Bouldering Championships. The pair will be using and abusing a
load of Berghaus gear along the way and providing feedback to Berghaus
designers.
"It’s every climbers dream to go away climbing for a
year without having to work or have any real responsibilities
apart from to climb," says Leah. "I’m so thankful that
Berghaus is supporting me in my quest
around Europe. This trip will be the best development
for my climbing that I’ve had so far in my career and I am excited to
see the results it will bring!"
Berghaus marketing director, Sarah Wilson, said: “We are really pleased
to get behind Leah for this once in a lifetime opportunity. We are
looking forward to following her on every step of her adventure on her
blog at berghaus.com. Hopefully this will be an inspiration to all
female climbers and outdoors enthusiasts.”
