Leo Houlding's Autumn Tour- 'The End Of Abseiling'

Berghaus-sponsored climber Leo Houlding will be on tour around the UK this autumn with his show 'Para-Alpinism - The End of Abseiling'. The talk includes footage from his many climbing and BASE jumping exploits, including big wall free routes with BASE descents and deep water soloing on the uninhabited islands off Croatia's Dalmatian coast. Sounds like a good way of spending an autumn evening...

In case 'Para-Alpinism' has passed you by, it basically involves climbing a route and then BASE jumping from it, rather than abseiling down as most of us do on our Saturdays. It all started in early 2005 after Leo's Alpine-style free ascent of Fitzroy's 1400m North Pillar in Patagonia. Unfortunately, the climb ended in a seventeen hour abseil through a severe storm, so it's no surprise that he wasn't in the mood for much more abseiling after that:-)

Since then, Leo has been experimenting with big wall climbs across Europe and America followed by parachute-assisted descents. And yes, he was also the one who beat Jeremy Clarkson both up and down the Verdon Gorge in Top Gear - the rest, as they say, is history...
