Berghaus-sponsored Leo Houlding, one of the best and most exciting
young climbers in the world, is embarking on a UK-wide lecture trip
dubbed 'Leo Houlding's Freestyle Wall Climbing Tour' this March and
April.
It's the first time 21 year-old Leo's toured and should be well worth
the admission price, erm, whatever it is. If you're wondering exactly
who Leo is, think the looks of a young Jim Morrison - that's for the
benefit of female readers by the way - combined with a precocious
climbing talent that's already gained international recognition.
At just 15, Leo climbed Lord of the Flies on Dinas Cromlech, he's
scaled the Angel of the North sculpture near Gateshead along with
numerous other hard British routes, occasionally in the dark. In 1998
he made only the second free ascent of the route El Niño on El
Capitan in Yosemite with Patch Hammond after watching the Hüber
brother make the first free ascent of the 2500-foot route on North
America Wall.
More recently Leo trashed his foot after a fall while attempting
the Maestri route on Cerro Torre leading to a painful retreat from
the mountain.
The lectures will incorporate photographs and video footage from
his numerous climbing adventures and as anyone who's met Leo will
tell you, he's never less than entertaining, so it should be a good
crack.
