UK lightweight kit specialists backpackinglight.co.uk is receiving rave reviews for its pioneering work in the area of podcasting. With the lightweight revolution slowly making inroads into the British market place founder Bob Cartwright decided to use his previous experience in the world of broadcasting to give visitors a taste of both the equipment and the mindset behind lightweight backpacking.

The podcasts, downloadable audio files in MP3 format, include a series of interviews with leading industry figures including Chris Townsend and Cameron McNeish and “ordinary” enthusiasts. The idea originated as a marketing tool to sell “Flatworld” folding plastic tableware, but has rapidly expanded into a series of entertaining and informative interviews. Since the first recordings went live on the company’s website the interest has been overwhelming, with 3000 downloads in the first 6 days.

Bob, and wife Rose, plan on adding new podcasts daily and have exciting plans for expansion. With positive feedback from listeners who appreciate the mix of famous and not so well known interviewees there are now plans to expand the service to include video-casts. Manufacturers have also shown interest in the format, which can be used to describe, or with video-casts show, equipment features and instructions.

The podcasts are available free from the company’s website www.backpackinglight.co.uk.
