Hats off to the guys at the BMC for their new Facebook competition. In their charming desperation to be 'liked', the organisation has recruited top mountaineer Kenton Cool to send one lucky climber or hillwalker a personalised video message direct from the slopes of Everest.
We Want You For A New Recruit
Quite what Kenton will have to say remains to be seen - remember, high altitude can scramble the brain cells, so it may be slightly random - but the mechanism works like this: if the number of likes for the BMC exceeds the height of Everest in metres, which is 8848m at present, until the Chinese change their mind again - then Kenton will take time off from his latest attempt on the mountain, the one with the Olympic gold medal on hand, to send the message off to the random winner.
More Naked Bribery
And as if having that splurged across your Facebook timeline wouldn't be cool enough, there's further blatant bribery in the shape of a Sherpa Adventure Gear Lithang Jacket and an Icebreaker Quantum Hood, which the lucky winner will also be receiving.
Top marks for ingenious bribery. We'll leave you to wrestle with the moral and semantic issue of whether you do actually 'like' the BMC and whether liking someone on Facebook is the same as actually liking them...
Meanwhile, you can find the BMC's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BritishMountaineeringCouncil, click the 'Like Us' link and you'll receive a notification telling you how to be included in the prize draw.
