Chris Bonington on the radio tonight

Radio 4 is evidently gearing up for mountain mania in the run-up to next year's 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest, with their second interview this week with a mountaineer.

Sir Chris Bonington, the best-known beard in British climbing, is one of the guests on Midweek with Libby Purves, which was on at 9am this morning, and is repeated tonight at 9.30.

To be honest, we didn't catch the programme this morning, as we were too busy making cheese and tomato toasties in an Apple i-book, bloody technology... However, we'll be catching the repeat tonight, and it's a fairly good bet that he'll mention his new book, Chris Bonington's Everest. If you can't wait til then you can tune in online.

For most inhabitants of Middle England, Chris Bonington is British climbing, and he's an eloquent ambassador for the sport. Should be a good one.
