Cracking mix of film, speakers and mountain culture in the heart of Snowdonia.
A quick last-minute heads up on this year's
Llanberis Mountain Film Festival
which takes place this coming weekend,
5-7 March and
features some outstanding mountain films, photography and speakers.
Sponsored by Mountain Equipment, LLAMMFF 2010 promises to be a cracker,
with a glorious location at the foot of Snowdon, arguably the best
outdoor caff in the UK close at hand and some cracking looking films to
take in.
Fim
Highlights include two and a half hours of the Best of Banff Films,
including First Ascent - Alone On The Wall, which won two prizes at
Kendal including the Grand Prize and should be well worth seeing.
Also quite outstanding is the Houlding / Lee film, The Asgard
Project, another Kendal winner and a proper epic mountaineering film.
That's just scraping the surface though and looking through the
programme, there's an eclectic mix of climbing, cycling, surfing and
much more.
Speakers
The Speakers programme looks equally impressive and includes Stephen
Venables, ME-sponsored climber Dave MacLeod, Steve McClure, Jack
Geldard, Stu McAleese and others.
There's also a trade tent with exibitors including Me, Sprayway, DMM
and others. And then there's art, a climbing competition, masterclasses
at the Beacon Climbing Centre.
Redhead
Last but very definitely not least, thecontroversial and mesmeric John
Redhead will be having 'a multi media intervention' titled Remains of
Languedoc and described as 'an orchestrated dialogue with the landscape
and rocks'.
In the words of the festival web site: 'From field recordings of
Montsegur and Rosslyn, John hopes an impossible music will emerge, a
textual song, as part of a forensic together with words and images.'
