A lost map triggered a rescue on Kinder at the weekend, just one of a
series of incidents attended by the volunteers of the Edale Mountain
Rescue Team in the Peak.
A pair of walkers called for help after their map was blown away on
Kinder Scout causing them to become lost in blizzard conditions on the
high plateau. Edale, Buxton and Kinder team members eventually located
them near the trig point on Kinder Low and escorted to safety.
The incident underlines the importance of carrying a spare map in
winter, when it's all too easy to lose one with cold, fumbling, gloved
hands and fierce winds.
In other weekend incidents, the Edale team were called to a 55-year-old
lady complaining of chest pain on Losehill. After a slog through the
deep snow she was treated by team members and evacuated to an air
ambulance.
Then on Sunday, the team were called out to a 15-year-old girl hurt in
a sledging accident near Chesterfield and a group of six off-roaders
who'd become stuck in deep snow on the Houndkirk Road - they had to be
escorted out on foot after contacting the police.
Finaly the team assisted emergency services clearing ehicles from the
A623 over Tideswell Moor that had become stranded in snow - see image
above.
