Hats off to the guys at Berghaus who have released a special
calendar in aid of the Orangutan Foundation International, which you
can buy by visiting the Berghaus web site.
The north eastern-based gear company became aware of the plight of
the orange apes while shooting photographs for a travel-clothing
brochure in Borneo earlier this year. The orangutan is in serious
danger of extinction because of the ongoing destruction of its rain
forest habitat with the population almost halving over the past
decade.
The Orangutan Foundation International has a resource known as
Camp Leakey in the Taniumg Putting National Park in Borneo, which is
a sanctuary for orphaned and displaced orangutans which features in
some of the calendar pictures taken by outdoor photographer Mike
Swallow.
You can find out more about the calendar which costs £10,
view the pictures and there's information on how to order it at the
Berghaus web site.
For more information on the work of the Orangutan Foundation
International, see their web site at www.orangutan.org.uk.
Go on, make an orangutan happy this Christmas.
