Mallory Everest Success 'Unlikely' Says Bonington

Britain's best known mountaineer tells a local paper that he doubts Mallory succeeded on Everest and even finding his camera might be inconclusive

Amazing what you find in local papers, apparently Sir Chris Bonington told the Knutsford Guardian that even discovering Mallory's camera might not settle the question of whether the Cheshire-born mountaineer reached the summit of Everest in 1924.

In an interview with the paper, Sir Chris mused that "It is conceivable that if they took a photograph on the summit it would have been in thick cloud and therefore would not confirm it."

Bonington is also quoted as saying he thought it 'unlikely' that Mallory had summited. For the full story see the This Is Cheshire web site.
