Aonach Eagach Ridge - Ben Bloggs

The man reported died at the scene of the accident which happenend late on Saturday afternoon and the body was located by a Royal Navy helicopter.

According to the Press and Journal web site, the man actually fell while descending the Clachaig Gully, a notoriously slippery descent route which leads down towards the Clachaig Inn.

The party had already traversed the narrow and exposed grade one ridge and were descending at the end of the day. Our sympathies to friends and family.

Is this now reclassified as a grade one ridge, I'm sure it was always a three or two depending.

My thoughts with the family.  This is truly a sad incident as the ridge is absolutely superb but it is well known not to decend by the path down towards the Clachaig Inn.  Most books tell you of it then advise against it prefering another line.

Yup. I'm sure it's grade two in summer (at least).

Yes it was quite sobering to come out of the Clachaig on Saturday at about 7pm to see Glencoe MRT members heading up the path beside the Clachaig Gully.  Have to say that the fitness of the MRT guys was incredible - fully laden with stretcher etc and they fair shifted straight up the path beside the gully.

And it doesn't really matter what grade it is does it as he didn't actually fall off the ridge - this sad story is a reminder that the getting down can often be the most dangerous part of a hill day.
