Sad news from Snowdonia where a 25-year old Cheshire man has died after falling from a route on Glyder Fach, identified in one newspaper report as Bristly Ridge.

In a report on the ICNorth Wales site, Ogwen Valley mountain rescue team spokesman Chris Lloyd is quoted as saying:

"The two men had made their way to the foot of the route and were preparing to start when the man slipped. He fell about 100ft, suffering severe head injuries."

If the Guardian is correct and the fall was from Bristly Ridge, the accident underlines the potential dangers of relatively straightforward scrambles - the route is a grade one - in slippery winter conditions particularly as most easy scrambles are climbed unroped and without helmets meaning that while the route is technically simple, a slip can have serious consequences.

Our condolences to the victims friends and family. Be careful out there.

Sad news about the young man that died on Glyder Fach yesterday.

I climbed Bristly on Saturday, and remember thinking, "These rocks are pretty iced-up ... hope nobody comes to grief."

It's been put into perspective for me when I think that, only the day before the accident, I was pathfinding for a group containing two or three people who had never done any mountain walking before. Very sad news indeed.

it can get so icy there even in pretty mild temperatures... goes to show how dangerous simple scrambles can be
