Messner Headlines Dundee Festival

A bit of a heads-up for Scottish OMers with advance news from this year's Dundee Mountain Film Festival which takes place from 26-30 November 2008 and features a cracking line-up including the legendary Italian mountaineer, Reinhold Messner.

Messner, as if you didn't know already, was the first man to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks and the first to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen along with his partner Peter Habeler. He has a strong claim to be regarded as the world's greatest ever mountaineer and he'll be lecturing at the Bonar Hall, Dundee University on the Saturday night.

The event kicks off with an opening by e Slovenian alpinist Tomaz Humar, and the former Director of the Banff Mountain Festivals Bernadette McDonald on the Wednesday evening and from then on in, it's a mixture of award-winning mountain films and lectures from top climbers including Dave MacLeod on Friday evening.
