Big guns wheeled out for shop relaunch in Lakes

You can tell things are getting bad when the Minister of State for
Tourism no less, is roped into opening newly refurbished gear shops
in the Lakes.
Yep, Janet Anderson MP will officiate at the re-opening of the
Edge of the World outdoor shop in Bowness on Windermere at 12 Noon
this Sunday 8 April. The shop has been refurbished in association
with Karrimor and contains memorabilia of great British climbers and
explorers together with information about their exploits, plus, of
course, you can buy things.
The not so hidden agenda however, is to give some sort of leg-up
to hard-hit Lake District tourism. The National Park Authority will
be providing free booklets detailing a list of short walks which are
open, plus Karrimor, in association with Trail Magazine, has come up
with a list of mountain biking routes which will also be distributed
free on the day.
Other attractions - what d'you mean Janet's not enough - will
include live music at the shop and free Easter eggs for the kiddies;
why not the adults we say. Elsewhere in the town is the Beatrice
Potter Museum, steamer trips and a load of shops, pubs and
restaurants all desperately in need of customers.
