Famous mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington and Friends of the Lake District are teaming up to take on the 8 mile walk across Morecambe Bay to raise money for the landscape conservation charity...
My wife has a very eclectic to-do list and one of her top items is walking across Morecombe Bay. Unfortunately she has a track record or mis-reading tide timetables, we missed the famous tide at Mont St Michel by 12 hours, and an irrational fear of quicksand. This expertly guided walk would be the ideal solution so I might be dispatching her up to Morecambe.
Led by the Queen’s guide Cedric Robinson, this stunning and popular walk takes place on Saturday 14th July, starting at 2.15pm from Arnside Promenade, with registration at 1pm, and ending at Kent’s Bank, near Grange-over-Sands.
Friends of the Lake District is the only charity wholly dedicated to protecting the landscape of Cumbria and the Lake District for the future. Its recent campaigns have included working to extend the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, and last year helping the Government to change its mind about selling off the nation’s forests. Friends of the Lake District also represents the Campaign to Protect Rural England in Cumbria.
Sir Chris, who is Vice President of the Friends said: “The Crossbay Walk is always an enjoyable occasion for young and old alike. I’m delighted to be supporting the Friends and am looking forward to meeting many people on the day.”
Registration for the event costs £10 with under 16’s taking part for free. Everyone taking part in the walk will also receive a free certificate.
