ME will be supplying clothing to the Sport Scotland Avalanche Information Service for the next three years.
Mountain Equipment
has announced that it will be sponsoring the
Sport Scotland Avalanche
Information Service (SAIS) for at least another three
years and will be the exclusive clothing sponsor of the service.
The decision was reached before the tragic events of last weekend,
which highlighted the dangers of avalanche in the Highlands and ensures
that the team of 12 observers who are regularly out on the hill
assessing snow conditions will have access to ME's top of the range
mountaineering clothing.

The SAIS operates between mid-December and early April with
observers out in all conditions compiling reports and forecasts for
five of Scotland's most popular winter mountain areas. The forecasts
are posted on the inernet, but also in strategic car parks, centres,
outdoors shops, cafes and so on.
Richard Talbot, ME’s Product Manager said
“The avalanche information service is unique. Its forecasts
are used by hill-walkers and climbers every day throughout the winter
and without doubt helps to save lives. At the same time, the Scottish
Winter mountain scene remains close to the heart of Mountain
Equipment’s whole ethos and we get invaluable feedback by
having our products used in some of the most demanding conditions to be
found anywhere.”
Mark Diggins, SAIS Co-ordinator - pictured - says that the service
chose to work with ME because 'the design of the products
allow us to get on with our daily work in some of the most hostile
winter conditions in the UK.'
'a product that protects us from the wind, the extremes of winter, from
pouring rain to blizzards and icing, is testament to the
design, development and understanding that Mountain Equipment
have developed over a great many years in defining what is
needed to cope and operate in the worst of British weather.
We are delighted to be supported by Mountain Equipment.”
