It's starting to feel like a Montane benefit day on OM, but we thought you'd like to know that a cheque for £15,000 raised through sales of Montane's Limited Edition Mountain Rescue range over the past two years has been handed over to Mountain Rescue England and Wales.

The range was launched at the Outdoors Show in Birmingham two years ago and consisted of a selection of carefully selected Montane products in a special black with red trim colour scheme. Not only were the prices slightly lower than the regular items, but most importantly, profit from sales was ear-marked to support mountain rescue.

And that's cash which is vital to the continued operation of the service, which is provided 24/7, 365 days a year purely by volunteers who give up their own time without payment not only to help with mountain incidents, but also with lowland searches, and assisting the rescue services during major incidents.

Montane's Paul Cosgrove comments: We have had a connection with Mountain Rescue throughout our almost 20 year history. Two years ago, we launched a small range of specialist light weight clothing at the Outdoor Show in Birmingham, specifically to raise money for MREW.

"That work and range has now resulted in a £15,000 donation and it seemed only fitting to hand over this money to the national mountain rescue organisation as part of its Awareness weekend."

Good work by the guys at Montane. For more information on the Mountain Rescue Teams, or to make a donation, please visit www.mountain.rescue.org.uk.

Well done to Montane for an innovative - and good-looking - way to support MR :-)

Indeed. I got some of the powershield pants and they're fab. Good to know that I got a good deal and MRT benefited too. Shame other UK based companies can't do this...are you listening ME, Berghaus, Sprayway etc etc.......

To be fair, different brands suppport mountain rescue in different ways. A lot of UK brands, for example, supply clothing to teams either gratis or at cost/similarly reduced price and/or make de factor donations and contributions by various mechanisms.

That said, the Montane initiative was a cracking idea and a little bit different.
