Mountaineering has gained another celebrity convert with the news
that chubby rock offspring celeb' Jack Osbourne has shed 60lb with
the aid of coffee enemas and climbing.
Writing in this weekend's Observer, Ed Douglas tells how Ozzy's
16st 7lb son is currently climbing a four-day multi-pitch route on El
Capitan in Yosemite, the culmination of a summer during which the
combination of mountaineering and detoxification has slashed his
weight to just 11 stone. His next goal, says Douglas, is a six pack,
and not an alcoholic one.
As well as training at an indoor wall, he's also spent time at a
Thai kick-boxing school and experienced some serious colonic
irrigation. His eureka moment apparently came while hanging out with
a team of British climbers who were deep water soloing in Croatia
when he decided that he wanted not just to watch, but to do as
well.
Two of the British team are guiding Osbourne on the Salathe Wall
while Ben Pritchard and Paul Twomey will be filming the team as they
climb. Ah yes, filming, you didn't think this all happened by
accident did you?
Osbourne's conversion took place against the backdrop of a new
ITV2 series 'Jack Osbourne, Adrenaline Junkie' which will no doubt be
coming to our screens some time soon. He's been officially approved
by the BMC as well, sort of, taking part in the recent urban climbing
event in Manchester, Nick Colton of the BMC apparently commented:
'Jack seems to have taken more responsibility for himself, and that's
what climbing is all about. Good luck to the lad.'
Which we can only echo. Prepare to be bored silly with 'Jack
Osbourne, Adrenaline Junkie' trailers coming to your telly box some
time soon. In the mean time, here's the complete Observer
story. Also see The
Mirror, Hello
Magazine and here's
how to sponsor the programme...
Another massive triumph for mountaineering then ;-)
