Double whammy for Ramblers as they lose out to a bunch of naturists and Claudia Schiffer in separate legal battles.

It's a double whammy for Ramblers as they lose two access battles to the unclothed - one to Claudia Schiffer and the other to a bunch of dune-haunting nudists...

Let's start with the nudists... Ramblers in Cumbria have lost out in a public inquiry called to ascertain their rights to walk on a path through a section of duneland at Sandacres near Haverigg, which is now leased by a narturist club.

Despite claims by the Lakeland Outdoor Club that the path had been in regular use since 1972, a government inspector decided that only 400 metres of the path, on land owned by Millom Country Council, will be open to ramblers, the rest will remain as nature intended.

It's all been done to avoid a cover-up claimed OUTDOORSmagic editor Jon Doran, never one to miss out on a cheesy line...

Meanwhile...

Suffolk ramblers lost out to naked car advertising siren Claudia Schiffer in a battle over the temporary closure of a footpath running through the grounds of her manor house.

The path will be closed from 2 pm on Saturday to 2 am on Sunday while the supermodel's wedding reception takes place in the house and grounds. 'There is a likelihood of danger to the public and we are concerned public safety will be compromised,' a spokesperson for Suffolk Country Council said, apparently concerned that walkers would be trampled underfoot by desperate paparazzi.

Local walkers were, reportedly incenced, with John Andrews, the 64-year-old secretary of Suffolk Ramblers' Association, quoted as saying: 'The decision is laughable. This is exactly what happens when people have money and influence. I am told that journalists, German ones especially, and the paparazzi are the ones that are causing most concern. But this is just an excuse to close the path.'

Guess who didn't get an invite then...

Why incur the costs and hassle of a legal battle over a path closure for 12 hours on one day of the year?

Have these people got NOTHING to do?

Because they don't want a precedent to be set? If it's OK for Claudia to shut off the ROW for 12 hours, what's to stop other landowners from trying to do the same, for 12 hours/days/weeks/months? Too easy for a path to turn into a slippery slope.

No I quite agree with Stuart. If was twelve weeks then fine, fight it, but let's not get paranoid.
