National Parks Week starts today and runs through until 2nd August, with a range of activities organised around the country. Activities are split into two main catagories: Celebrating the Past and Looking After the Future and take in Roman Re-enactments and Solar Powered Boat Trips. If  you want something a bit more traditional you could join a walk to a working farm in the Lake District or have a go at dry stone walling in Northumberland.

All the National parks except Snowdonia are running something during the week, and you can check the program on the National Park Authority website - and Cairngorm and, Loch Lomond  and The Trossachs have now released details of events. Many of the activities are free, and for the others the price has been kept low and there's a choice ranging from family play activities through to an 11 mile walk from Glossop to Edale or a guided walk up Cairngorm. Even if you're not one for "organised" activities it's worth checking out as there's a few unusual activities like Stile Making, and this year the National Parks Week celebrates the 60th Anniversary of our National Parks so it's good to give them some support.
