Bear with us as we don't have full details yet, but the National Trust has bought the Stickle Barn pub in Langdale and has plans to actually run it itself, with National Trust staff behind the bar.
Perfectly located for walking, climbing and mountain biking, the Stickle Barn is right in the heart of the Lake District and very close to the Trust's own Great Langdale campsite. the pub takeover, says the organisation is just part of a wider plan for the valley which focuses on 'improving facilities, giving visitors the best experience possible, and raising the profile of what’s on offer in and around the valley all year round'.
For the pub that'll mean knowledgeable National Trust staff behind the bar to offer advice on the local area along with the beer along with 'very local produce on your plate and in your glass, and a new calendar of events'.
Which sounds great to us. The Trust runs one of the local caffs in Edale in the Peak and it's always a pleasure to visit, so we have high hopes for the Stickle Barn. There's an official launch this month and we'll try to get along for a pint or two and a better idea of what's planned.
