If the credit crunch hasn’t emptied your pockets yet and you live in the vicinity of Leeds, you’ll be pleased to know that a new climbing shop opened last week. It’s on North Street, near the centre – see Street Map - and it's called 'Mountain Intelligence'.

According to their new website, www.mountain-intelligence.co.uk:

“You won’t find ‘urban extreme’ inside our store, only the things we love to wear and use ourselves – hardware from Black Diamond, DMM & Metolius, footwear from Five Ten, Evolv, La Sportiva and Scarpa, clothing from Arc’teryx, Patagonia, Scapegoat and Mountain Equipment and great pacs from Osprey and Deuter.”

With ’lifestyle’ gear running rife at some of our local stores, it’s good to see real climbing gear taking centre stage.

Winter Lecture Series

Steph DavisAnd if you want to go to the store’s house-warming, they have an evening on 19th November with Steph Davis – one of the world’s top female free climbers. Her C.V. includes such gnarly ascents as Torre Egger in Patagonia and Salathe Wall on El Capitan, and she also holds the accolade of being the second woman to free climb El Cap in a day.

She’ll be giving a talk about her exploits on over-size rock faces, with more lectures at the store to follow later in the year, including Gaz Parry, James Pearson and Ian Parnell.
