Local Lakeland mountain artist Vivianne Pooley has been visiting the Alps and now you can see a selection of her work from there in an exhbition called Alpine Views.
A quick heads up for a new exhibition of the work of Cumbrian
artist Vivienne Pooley at the National Mountaineering
Exhibition at Rheged.
The three-month show, called Alpine Views, marks a
departure for Pooley who normally focuses on the mountains of her
native Lake District - as you've probably guessed, her new work
concentrates on the Alps.
A mountaineer since her teens, she has been working on her Alpine
pictures since a visit in 1999, returning regularly to sketch and
photograph the mountains as the basis for her large landscapes.
The works on show at Rheged are the results of visits to Mont
Blanc, the Pennine Alps, Bernese Oberland and the Gross Glockner
range, with paintings in both oils and water colours.

Robin Ashcroft, manager of the National Mountaineering Exhibition
commented: "I've been a fan of Vivienne's work for some time, but I'm
really amazed by this portfolio.
"I know many of these mountains well, and I've yet to see a better,
or more atmospheric rendition of the high Alps. Her portrayal of
Alpine light on rock and snow, set alongside Alpine skies, is
stunning. This is a remarkable body of work, that I'm convinced will
become increasingly sought after."
Alpine View is on display within the National Mountaineering
Exhibition's Exit Gallery. The gallery is open every day between
10.00am and 5.30pm and entry is free. All work on display is for
sale.
