Climbing specialist Hot Aches gets all unconventional with its new climbing road movie, Odyssey.
Hot Aches are the guys behind some cracking climbing films like The Long Hope, but for their next big launch 'Odyssey' - A Climbing Road Movie' they're taking a road less travelled - see what we did there, oh, sorry - for the launch.
Free Streaming
Rather than jumping on the festival bandwagon, Paul Diffley has opted to work with The North Face and premiere Odyssey at the world's biggest climbing wall, The Climbing Works in Sheffield on 10 November, 2012 - see below for full details and booking.
But it doesn't stop there. At the same time, the film will launch as a free stream via the Hot Aches web site for ten days with options to buy either on DVD or via download at a reduced price.
The film is the tenth Hot Aches production and, as youmight have deduced from the sub-title, is a climbing road movie following four of the world's best climbers as they tackle some of the best traditional rock climbing in the UK over a two-week period.
Four Climbers, Lots Of UK Rock...
The climbers are James Pearson, Hazel Findlay, Hansjörg Auer (Austria) and Caroline Ciavaldini (France) and, with the four-man camera team, they visit the Lakes, Pembrokeshire, Shropshire, Northumberland and North Wales. James Pearson will be giving a talk before the screening at the premiere, with other members of the team also there to answer questions.
Hot Aches big cheese Paul Diffley hopes the novel launch will expose the film to far more people than would ever see it at a festival:
“By holding a worldwide online premiere we hope thousands and thousands of climbers will enjoy it for free during the initial ten day period. Obviously this is a commercial venture and I hope some of those people will then enjoy it so much that they’ll buy a copy to keep and maybe buy a DVD for a gift as a present for a friend."
He sees The North Face, who sponsor all four climbers featured in Odyssey as 'a natural partner', particularly given their pioneering approach to publicising events like the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc and the Kalymnos Climbing Festival using a combination of social media and streaming video.
See Odyssey Extract This Sunday
Last but not least, The Climbing Works will be showing an exclusive extract from Odyssey at the interval of the Reel Rock tour screening on Sunday October 7th.
