Anquet offers a choice of mapping including Ordnance Survey in both 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scales.

Mapping software specialist Anquet has launched a new website to showcase its latest OMN - Outdoor Map Navigator - platform for PC and assorted mobile devices.

We say mobile devices, but right now, the apps for both iPhone and Android are still in advanced beta testing, though due out shortly. The fully fledged OMN for PC however is available and a free version can be installed on your PC direct from the Anquet site, so you can have a play.

In The Cloud...

The interesting bit about the new Anquet system, for anyone who uses multiple devices, is that it can be set up to synch across all your computers and phones wirelessly using Anquet Cloud, which stores all your maps and routes safely on a remote server with no need for a web site interface.

That means, says Anquet, that you could, for example. download a new map to your PC at work and it will automatically appear on your phone as you take off for the weekend. And if you buy a new phone or computer. all you have to do is sign in to Anquet Cloud and your maps and routes will automatically be installed on the new device.

All of which makes sense to us, but as we're running Macs here and there is no OMN for Mac and, as far as we can tell, none in the offing either, we can't tell you how well the actual software works.

Then again, if you're on a PC, you can find out for yourself for free. The new Anquet web site is at www.anquet.com - there's a summer sale on OS mapping in progress too.
