Welsh Sports Minister Alan Pugh walked up Snowdon on Boxing Day to publicise the existence of a new Welsh mountain weather forecast service.

Mountain Weather Wales was launched in the autumn and carries mountain weather and conditions forecasts for both Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, it cost some £12,000 and is currently available free on the Met Office web site - Snowdonia / Beacons - and the Welsh Tourist Board site from 5.30 am onwards.

The forecast includes a general overview plus cloud base levels, freezing level and summit temperatures and wind levels. One day all weather forecasts will be made this way...
