Nick Brown,
the founder of Nikwax
and the man who invented the original leather-proofing compound in his
kitchen some 31 years ago has taken time out from his busy schedule to
explain the reasons behind the new Nikwax
Waterproofing Wax for Leather on the OM forum.
We told you about the new
Nikwax last week, but for the full horse's mouth
low-down on why and how the old cans of paste are being replaced with
tubes of cream-based Nikwax, you can simply ask Nick directly. He's
there, he says, because he still has an emotional attachment to the old
cans of wax and realises others might feel the same way.
The new Nikwax is VOC and solvent free, water based and highly
concentrated. And just as importantly, Brown says the results are
excellent:
'The performance in terms of reducing water absorption, and giving
durable water-repellency, WHILST conserving breathability, is unmatched
by any other smooth leather products we have tested. I have been using
it on my boots for a while now, and I am really pleased with it.'
Lots more about it and the reasons and testing behind the new formula
on this OM
forum thread.

Ok, I'll bite. What are you replacing it and why? And should I be using that stuff on me leather boots instead of the Nikwax liquid stuff I currently use?
