North Yorkshire Moors Announce
Activities based around school holidays proving popular with families
With a different activity every day of the week during the half term
holidays (which is also National Family Week), there’s lots
of opportunities for children to learn something new in the North York
Moors National Park.
Grab a band of merry men and have a go at archery on Bank Holiday
Monday (25 May). The Whitby Company of Archers will provide hands-on
tuition and for £3.50 you can have as many goes as you like
between 10am and 4pm.
On Tuesday 26 May there’s an action packed day of hiding and
camouflage. Create a weatherproof shelter using materials from the
woodland but be warned, shelters will be tested for how watertight they
are! The Hide Away in the Woods day (10.30am to 4pm) is open to
children aged 9 to16 and costs £15.
It’s time to get creative on Wednesday 27 May –
gather leaves to use in printing a personalised tree-shirt for just
£5 at one of two sessions (morning and afternoon). Finally,
pull on your wellies and join in some water-based adventures
discovering what lurks in rockpools on Thursday 28 May and in a
moorland stream on Friday 29 May.
Sally Smith, the National Park Authority’s Events and
Exhibitions Coordinator, said:
“There’s a lot for youngsters to do this half term
in the beautiful surroundings of the North York Moors. While the
children are getting rid of some excess energy, there’s a
range of exhibitions to keep the adults entertained including paintings
of the local area by Gail Hurst and some beautiful pottery by Jill
Christie.”
All of these events take place at The Moors National Park Centre in
Danby apart from the rockpools on Thursday 28 May which is at Runswick
Bay. For further information and to book a place call 01439 772738 on
any of the events (no need to book on the archery event).
The Moors National Park Centre is accessible by Moorsbus on Sunday and
Bank Holiday Monday. Go to www.moors.uk.net/moorsbus
for more information or call 01845 597 000 for help in planning a
journey.
